Decked Builder - Mobile Apps for MTG

Version 1.6 of the iPhone edition is now available to be downloaded on the App Store -- try out the new Dropbox and Price Deck features! The Lite version has yet to be updated by Apple.

We are currently working on rolling out the iPad version with all of the v1.6 features as well. We will also have some new features solely for the iPad that we are working on, watch out for the next blog post.

We are happy to announce that we have released iPhone edition version 1.6 for Apple's approval. The complete change list for this new version is as follows:

- Added support for loading decks from and saving decks to Dropbox.
- Added Unhinged, Unglued and Starter 1999/2000 card sets.
- Added HD card art for Judgement, Unhinged, Unglued and Portal sets.
- Added function to price an entire deck.
- Prices are now cached for up to seven days by the app.
- Prices can be flushed from the cache in the Settings view.
- Decks can now be sorted by last modified time or by name when loading and managing decks.
- Deck cards can now be sorted by type (default), cost, color or name.
- Added option to search for Artifact Creatures as a card type.
- Added a splash screen.
- Miscellaneous peformance optimizations for loading larger decks.

You should expect to see it within the next week. We hope to port all these changes over to the iPad soon.

One of the problems that you might face is trying to sync up all your decks between the iPad, iPhone and/or Mac. Dropbox is a technology that allows you to save your files to the Dropbox server on the Internet, and then retrieve them on any device.

In the next release of Decked Builder iPhone edition, we are planning to introduce built-in support for Dropbox on the app. You will be able to save/load decks directly to/from your Dropbox account within the app itself. All your decks can now be stored on a central Internet server for free. No more clogging up of your email with decks.

Here's a screenshot of the upcoming deck pricing feature. We are currently working on optimizing the screen, as it is quite processor intensive.

An interesting feature we are testing out is having the deck pricing automatically find the lowest price possible for the deck, by scanning through every version of a card. For example, if you added an Alpha Giant Growth into your deck, the deck price would actually report the cheapest possible Giant Growth to buy, i.e. the Magic 2011 version.

Here's the short list of our major development plans for March and April:

- Enhanced pricing: we hope to be able to cache prices for longer periods of time without hogging up too much memory, allowing offline viewing of card prices. This will also allow us to easily price entire decks.

- Suggest lands: when building a deck, we generally choose our creatures and spells first, and then finally fill up the deck with the appropriate lands. The Suggest Lands feature will allow Decked Builder to automatically generate a potential list of lands that it thinks will be appropriate for your deck.

We also hope to port over some of the new Mac features to the iPhone / iPad.

As usual, feel free to write to us at support@deckedbuilder.com if you want anything included.

Hi all,

The Collections patch for the Mac is now available on the Mac App Store. Check out the Lite version if you have the chance. As always, we will be happy to receive all bug reports, feedback and suggestions at support@deckedbuilder.com.

Decked Builder iPhone edition v1.5.3 has been released for Apple's approval. The main change has been a whole host of memory optimizations (many of them were lessons learnt from working on the Mac version) to reduce the memory footprint of the iPhone app. This should hopefully reduce the amount of crashing in the iPhone version, which are almost entirely due to Decked Builder using up too much memory (those HD card arts take up about 200kb each).

We have also taken the opportunity to introduce a few more small changes:

- Ability to mulligan when testing a deck
- Renamed "Mana" to "Color" in the search view
- Added a dismiss button to input text fields

Kindly drop us an email at support@deckedbuilder.com if you notice any change after this patch (either more or less crashes). We really hope to stabilize the apps soon, before we work on our next set of new features.

We have just released v1.4 for Apple's approval. This is the Collections and UI revamp patch that we have been working on for the last two months. We hope you like it!

It should hopefully be released to the App Store by the end of the week.

As always, we will be happy to receive all bug reports, feedback and suggestions at support@deckedbuilder.com.

Our next update to Decked Builder Mac edition will be one of our largest yet, and we hope that you will like it. The two main features would be:

- The ability to manage a collection of cards, and to build and check decks against it

- Simplification of the existing deck building interface by eliminating the separate search window, turning many of the drawers into tabs and making the Selected Card window an inspector-style panel

Many of these changes are a direct result of your suggestions and feedback, so thank you all for writing in. Also, a special thanks to Alan Grassia and Mark McCafferty for all their feedback and testing efforts in the development of this version of Decked Builder.

The full change list for the upcoming version is listed below. I have also attached two screenshots of the upcoming version to this blog entry. We are now hard at work trying to eliminate most of the bugs before release.

For those who are interested, you can download the release candidate of the build on the beta page at www.deckedbuilder.com. Any bugs that you can find would be much appreciated!

Change list:
- Added preliminary support for collections. Record your collection of cards on your Mac, and build and check decks against your collection.
- Revamped basic deck building user interface.
- Eliminated separate search window by integrating it as a drawer to the deck window.

- Enhanced deck listing to group cards by type, and integrated sideboard list into the deck listing
