Decked Builder - Mobile Apps for MTG

Erik Karolus wrote in on April 25th asking: "I'm using Decked Lite on an IPod touch. it would be great if I could select an option to download all of the HD art overnight or something. Maybe add that as a pay option, to help offset the hosting costs of many people making big downloads?"

I thought that was a very interesting proposal, thanks for the great suggestion Erick!

Our bandwidth costs are already up to nearly 1 terabyte a month serving up HD card art and rising all the time, which is a major reason why we have not implemented an option to download all of the HD art offline. Each download of the entire collection of HD art would probably consume approximately 2-3 gb of bandwidth as well, not to mention the same amount of space on your device.

Collecting a nominal fee for allowing the offline caching of the entire HD card art collection is an interesting proposal to help us offset the bandwidth costs. Does a $2.99 fee make sense for this option? The fee would be to allow multiple downloads of the card art in case you run Decked Builder on multiple devices. It would also be for up to a year, to allow you to download HD art for new sets as well. Write in to support@deckedbuilder.com or post below to let us know your opinion. Thanks!

We plan to release the next version of Decked Builder to support New Phyrexia when it is released, sometime in mid May. As part of the release, we will have to support the new Phyrexian mana symbol. You can read more about it from here:

http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/arcana/686

We are thus taking the opportunity to clean up our database of cards as well and add support for split cards and flip cards, which currently do not work very well. As we will be changing the database entry for these cards, decks which contain these cards might not load properly after the patch. Hopefully this is not too big of an inconvenience.

Although there are 63 cards on the list, I believe that the main cards being used are Budoka Gardener and Nezumi Graverobber, as I have gotten a few emails for proper support for those cards.

The full list of cards which will be affected are below, as well as a sample screenshot of split card support.

Hi all,

We are pleased to announce our next app in the Decked Studios lineup -- Decked Drafter (although the name is not yet set in stone). The primary aim of Decked Drafter is to help you become a better booster draft player. To achieve that end, the app will have two main features:

- expert commentary and ratings on each card, courtesy of Marlon Egolf, who was 2009's PT Boston winner. PT Boston was a 1,500 player draft event, one of the largest ever held on US soil.

- a simulation mode to practice drafting against computer AI bots anywhere, anytime

It certainly is an honor for us to be working with Marlon on this project -- he has already set me straight on some draft ideas that I had. We are very excited about Decked Drafter, and are working hard to bring it to you. Feel free to write in to support@deckedbuilder.com to suggest any features you might want, or just leave your comments below.

We are also looking for several serious beta testers to help test and shape the product before launch. If you are interested, just apply to support@deckedbuilder.com.

And lastly, some screenshots from our current builds of the app below. Enjoy!

Hi all,

For the next iPad release, we are synchronizing the version numbers with the iPhone (hence version 1.6). Thanks to all your feedback, we have also enhanced the deck testing features as that has proven to be very popular. For deck testing, we have added the following enhancements:

- A mulligan button
- Sorting of cards in the battlefield
- Swipe to the right to play cards from hand
- Double tap on the left table to draw a card
- All card movements are now animated

We have also ported the pricing and Dropbox features to the iPad from the iPhone version, so you will soon be able to easily share decks between the iPhone and iPad. Wait for it soon!
